The jazz quartet Peemaï invites the four Javanese gamelan musicians of Gayam 16 to reinvent Asian sounds, colours and melodies. In the music of Peemaï, the country blues feel of Molam is mingled with electric and synthetic sounds, while religious music is given new sonic textures that are reminiscent of Hendrix or Coltrane. With its hypnotic rhythms and insistent melodies, the group serves up a unique musical offering, based on a joyful fusion of traditional Asian music with jazz, rock and electronica influences, and featuring gamelan as the star guest !
