Chucho Valdés invites Yilian Cañizares
A return to the sources of Afro-Cuban jazz
An active musician since the 1960s, the legendary Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés is one of the major contributors to the musical fusion between Cuba and Africa, who was worked tirelessly to spread Afro-Cuban jazz, an explosive blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, rock beats, harmonies and improvisations inspired directly by jazz. For this concert that that goes back to the roots, the festival suggested inviting the dazzling Cuban singer and violinist Yilian Cañizares, who is also no stranger to Transatlantic musical meetings.
